Within the ESY project, ABS is expanding the EU Material Passport to include non-hazardous materials and developing a framework for the assessment of circular economy in shipbuilding. These activities align with current and emerging EU frameworks, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR). By embedding KPIs linked to mandatory sustainability requirements, ABS is helping improve material traceability, lifecycle transparency, and industry competitiveness.

Konstantinos Voutzoulidis – Leads ABS’s involvement in EU contracted R&D projects, providing strategic guidance on program governance, cross-project coordination, and strengthening ties with EU-wide initiatives and industry.

Yvonni Damianidou, Senior Engineer, Technology – Leads Material Passport development.

Dr. Alexandros Katsinos, Senior Engineer, Technology – Leads development of the Circular Economy assessment framework.

Thanos Rigas, Senior Engineer, Sustainability – Provides technical input on the Shipyard Environmental Performance Indicator from a classification perspective, in addition to his contributions to the Material Passport and Ship’s circularity assessment.

How ABS Is Powering ESY’s Success
- Material Passport: Leading the expansion of the EU Material Passport to capture non‑hazardous materials and ensure alignment with ESPR and SRR requirements.
