Expected impacts capture the long-term value and effects of the project outcome.
New scientific evidence towards the realisation of decarbonisation goals.
Ecoshipyard platform will promote the integration of waste management systems and recycling operations: Inventory management, Implementation of recycling programs, Adaptation of best practices and a dedicated Waste Management Plan, Interaction with supplier networks. The outcome will be reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from shipbuilding by at least 20% (estimate), development end-of-life strategies for ships with a negative environmental impact lower than 10% (estimate), and reduction of the waste generated in shipyards by 30% (estimate). Achieve overall recycling rate in the European shipyard sector up to 85% (estimate).
Improve the environmental performance of shipyards towards a positive public perception of the shipbuilding and ship repair sectors, create better opportunities for a more gender inclusive waterborne transport sector, personnel training solutions for reducing energy use and emissions, create new jobs (>1500). The EEIG market analysis will provide detailed and accurate estimates on above.
Development of a shipyard environmental performance index (SEPI), relevant KPIs and benchmarks for shipyards through an inquiry into current shipyard processes and utilities (i.e., energy use and emissions to air, water and land).
Demonstration of advanced production processes which reduce the environmental impact of shipyards and assessment of the shipyards’ environmental performance (SEPI) which would achieve an improvement in environmental performance utilising current benchmarks, of at least 20% (estimate).
Development of a generic Digital Twin Shipyard Model encompassing shipyard processes with the associated energy use, emissions, waste and people, enabling to assess and benchmark the environmental performance and cost-efficiency of the shipyard and its contribution to the environmental (impact assessment within the ships’ Life Cycle, LC).
Development of guidelines on technical, organisational, and personnel training solutions for reducing energy use, waste, and emissions (air, water, land) whist improving the environmental performance of the shipyard.
Development of a blueprint for an EU Material Passport for waterborne transport assets classifying the ship circularity readiness level (CRL). In addition, guidelines for the passport maintenance throughout the ship life cycle will be backed by a business model for circularity and a regulatory regime [in line with Regulation EU1257/2013 on Ship Recycling (EU SRR)] and coordinated with past and ongoing Horizon (H2020, HE) projects in form of clustering.
Reduce non-operational environmental impacts from shipping including construction and end of life strategies.
Contribute to the objective of a ship environmental performance indicator of the non-operational environmental impacts from the ship which takes construction, embedded materials, capacity for repair, end of life strategies into account.
Understand the most significant environmental factors in shipbuilding and throughout a ships circular life cycle including ship repair and the associated costs.
Enhanced environmental and personnel awareness. Development of skills for greening of shipyards to improve the environmental performance and productivity in shipbuilding and ship repair processes.
Enhanced circularity of waterborne transport assets through recycling and reuse of materials, parts and components
Such an Ecosystem involves a variety of traditional value chain stakeholders, along with new market entrants and technology providers that altogether are expected to assume significant benefits out of the realization of EcoShipYard.
These groups will be directly involved and represented in the project consortium, demonstrators, the Living Lab, and the EEIG, to enable the establishment of a co-design, co-creation and co-validation framework for the delivery of real value across the ECOSHIPYARD-enabled Ecosystem.
