Europe’s Shipyards Navigate from Sunset Industry to Green Revival

The ECOSHIPYARD consortium is pleased to share its contribution to a feature article published in Horizon Magazine, the European Commission’s research and innovation magazine. The article explores how European shipyards are transforming through innovation, digitalisation, and sustainable technologies to support the transition towards greener and more competitive maritime industries.

Drawing on insights from the ECOSHIPYARD project and other European initiatives, the article highlights the role of research and innovation in helping shipyards reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and strengthen their long-term resilience. It showcases how collaborative efforts across Europe are supporting the sector’s evolution from a traditional industry into a key enabler of the green transition.
