Task 3.5: A Short Story on Focal Areas and Possibilities for Future Improvements

CATEGORY:

The question we are addressing

After mapping shipyard processes and assessing their environmental impacts in T3.3 and T3.4, T3.5 asks the next practical question: where can meaningful improvements actually be made?

How we approach it

Drawing on the process chain models and LCA results developed in the previous tasks, DLR helps identify focal areas where targeted actions can lead to more resourceful operations, reduce environmental impact and strengthen SEPI in European shipyards.

Grounded in reality

The task is guided by the reality of shipyard operations. Rather than focusing on theoretical potential alone, it considers what is technically viable, economically reasonable and operationally feasible in practice. The result is a forward-looking, evidence-based view of improvement opportunities shaped by what the project’s use cases actually reveal.
