EcoShipYard at TRA 2026: Showcasing Sustainable Shipyards and Circular Shipbuilding in Budapest

CATEGORY:

EcoShipYard was pleased to take part in the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026, held from 18 to 21 May 2026 in Budapest, Hungary.

TRA 2026 brought together leading voices from transport research, innovation, industry, and policy under the theme “Re-Generation in Transport”, creating an inspiring environment for exchanging ideas on cleaner, smarter, more sustainable, and more circular transport systems.

For EcoShipYard, the event was an important opportunity to present the project’s vision for the transformation of European shipyards. Through its presence at the WaterborneTP booth, EcoShipYard engaged with researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, innovators, shipyards, technology providers, and members of the wider transport community.

The project attracted interest from visitors who were keen to learn more about its objectives, ongoing activities, and expected results. Discussions focused on sustainable shipbuilding practices, reducing the environmental impact of shipyards, improving energy efficiency, optimising operations, and strengthening circular economy approaches within the maritime sector.

A central topic of discussion was the project’s work towards the development and implementation of an EU Material Passport for ships. Visitors showed strong interest in how improved material traceability can support reuse, recycling, and circular management across the ship lifecycle, helping the European shipbuilding ecosystem move towards more sustainable and resource-efficient practices.

EcoShipYard’s participation at TRA 2026 left a positive impression, highlighting the importance of collaboration across the maritime and transport sectors to accelerate innovation and support the green transition. The event provided a valuable platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and dialogue on the future of European shipbuilding and sustainable shipyard operations.

Small project gifts were also available at the booth, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere and encouraging further interaction with visitors interested in the project.

EcoShipYard would like to thank everyone who visited the WaterborneTP booth, engaged in discussions, and shared their perspectives on sustainable shipyards, circular economy, material traceability, and maritime innovation.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101138730. UK participation in the EcoShipYard Project is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) under the UK government’s Horizon Europe guarantee [grant number 10120898].
