In June, we held the Kick-off Meeting for Task 2.5, focusing on the development of a Material Passport for the shipping sector and exploring tools and frameworks that promote circular economy practices. The meeting fostered discussions on potential synergies with other related tasks, setting the stage for collaborative progress.
Leading up to the General Assembly in Malta, our efforts centered on identifying materials to include in the Material Passport and conducting a literature review on circularity readiness tools and frameworks. During the General Assembly, we shared updates on the Material Passport and circular economy initiatives within ESY, highlighting key inputs from other tasks, such as the preliminary structure of the passport and features like recyclability data.
We also addressed challenges related to the passport’s structure, content, and traceability, while presenting findings from the ongoing literature review of circular economy frameworks. A fruitful discussion with the External Advisory Board on the second day provided valuable feedback and contributions to guide the next steps.
Exciting progress is being made, and we look forward to continuing this important work to drive circular economy practices in the shipping sector!
