The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has prepared a questionnaire to understand the most critical environmental impact factors (EIFs) from shipyard processes, their influence on the environment, and to collect initial information on available literature, standards, and data sources. This will help to identify, quantify and prioritize EIFs based on importance.
The questionnaire is based on a ranking system for potential EIFs, ranging from 0 (not relevant/negligible) to 4 (very relevant/important). This questionnaire was distributed to ESY partners taking part in ESY Task 3.1. When responses were collected, he NTUA analysed them to identify key EIFs. The results of this analysis were presented at the last General Assembly meeting that took place in Turin, Italy.
Additionally, the NTUA has gathered a set of references on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, emissions and their impact, relevant regulations and standards, and sustainability methodologies for future work.
The next steps for ESY Task 3.1 are to determine and prioritizing emissions from shipyards based on the collected data. Discussions with stakeholders will take place, and the NTUA will update them on the results. Associations and prerequisites from other related tasks within the project will also be discussed.
Moreover, the NTUA will refine questionnaire as necessary and migrate the finalized version to an e-questionnaire platform QuestionPro. This will allow the NTUA to develop, distribute, collect and analyze feedback from stakeholders.
Finally, the NTUA will compile findings and prepare deliverable D3.1, which will document the functional specification of environmental assessment processes and resources, giving stakeholders the ability to understand and manage the environmental impacts within shipbuilding, retrofit and dismantling processes.
